Soul Bandit is the latest concoction to spring from the mind of the perennially creative multi-instrumentalist Dan Moses Schlessinger. Based in Brooklyn, NY, the soul-stealing sounds are what you would expect from the intersection of Folk Street and Funk Avenue, where Stevie Wonder and James Taylor might meet for a pint of absinthe, only to run into Dr. John, Carole King, and Jamiroquai playing cards with a three-headed chimpanzee. Not a cover in sight, Dan Moses & Soul Bandit features Dan Moses on keyboards, vocals, saxophones, and songwriting, accompanied by a host of other top musicians in the New York area. The melodies are catchy, the rhythms are nasty, and the lyrics often heartbreaking, often ridiculous.
